Six scientists from PHIVOLCS and two foreign collaborators from Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) attended the recently concluded International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI) Scientific Assembly in Portland, OR. USA. The said scientific meeting happens every four years and the last one was held in 2013 in Kagoshima Japan. The six scientists were composed of researchers from three technical divisions of PHIVOLCS namely, Geology and Geophysics R&D, Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction and Geologic Awareness and Preparednes divisions while two foreign collaborators from ULB have current projects in the Philippines. The theme of the scientific assembly was "Fostering Integrative Studies of Volcanism" and covered a complete range of IAVCEI research interests ranging from planetary volcanology and chemistry of the Earth's interior to eruption dynamics. The scientific assembly also included practical understanding of the environmental and social impacts of eruptions. The meeting offered a variety of mid-conference field trips to nearby volcanoes such as Mount St. Helens, Mount Hood, and Columbia River Flood basalts. The scientific program included symposia, parallel session and plenary talks from experts and researchers in a broad variety of volcanological fields emphasizing integrative and intersecting themes.

Here are some of the photos that captured the PHIVOLCS researchers interacting with other fellow volcanologists and the information regarding their presentation.
